William Latham

 Evolutionary Art, Interaction and Immersive Organic Worlds

Bio sketch.

William is a pioneer of digital art, and is well known for his evolutionary computer art at IBM Research from 1987 – 93. His work was widely shown in internal touring exhibitions to Japan, Australia and Germany sponsored by the British Council. He was then Creative Director of leading UK computer games development studio Computer Artworks Ltd for 10 years, creating games published by Universal Studios, Warner Interactive and Microsoft. William was then MD of consultancy company Games Audit Ltd whose clients included IFG (part of Allianz Insurance) and Malta Enterprise.  At Goldsmiths since 2007, his research projects include an Innovate UK award into procedural architecture. He is a co-lead with Professor Fol Leymarie on an exciting serious games research project into protein docking with Imperial College Bioinformatics Department funded by the BBSRC. His recent Mutator 1 + 2 Exhibition sponsored by Arts Council England was shown in Brighton and Brussels and is on show in Dundee. He is industrial liaison lead for the IGGI PhD Research Program and is co-Director of SoftV Ltd working on games for neuroscience and health with UCL.

Shigeo Takahashi

Interactive Abstraction of Scale-Adaptive Maps

Bio sketch.

Shigeo Takahashi is a professor in the School of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Aizu, Japan. He received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in computer science from the University of Tokyo in 1992, 1994, and 1997, respectively. His research interests include scientific and information visualization, visual perception modeling, geographic/cartographic visualization, and geometric modeling.

He currently serves on the editorial boards of "Journal of Visualization (2023-)" and "Computational Visual Media (2015-)", and was an associate editor of "Computer Graphics Forum (2016-2019)" and "IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics (2011-2015)". He has served as program co-chair for the International Symposium on Visual Information Communication and Interaction (2015, 2017), the IEEE Pacific Visualization Symposium (2014, 2015), and the STAR track of EuroVis 2017. He has also served on international program committees for more than 50 computer visualization and graphics conferences.

In 2007, Elsevier awarded him the Most Cited Paper Award for Graphical Models (2004-2006). He also received an honorable mention for his paper at the EuroVis 2019 conference.

Hsin-Chien Huang 

National Taiwan Normal University

Living in Stories: VR Leading the Future with Imagination

Bio sketch.

Huang graduated from National Taiwan University with two Presidential Awards and pursued product design at ArtCenter College of Design. He earned his master's degree at the Institute of Design, Illinois Institute of Technology, as a full Moholy Nagy scholar. Huang was a researcher at Interval Research Corporation before joining the digital entertainment industry. He held Art Director positions at Sega and Sony Computer Entertainment. His education and professional experiences have honed his skills as a cross-disciplinary creator.

Huang collaborated with renowned new media artist Laurie Anderson and legendary French electronic musician Jean-Michel Jarre. His artworks have been showcased worldwide, including the Venice Film Festival, Festival de Cannes, SXSW, Taipei Fine Art Museum, National Taiwan Museum of Fine Art, Shanghai Biennale, Venice Biennale, MoMA of New York, and Ars Electronica Festival. He has received commissions for prestigious institutions such as the Digital Dunhuang VR Experience, the Future Museum of the National Palace Museum in Taipei, and public installation art for Taipei 101.

Huang's accolades include the grand prize of the "New Voices, New Vision" new media competition, the Muse Award from the American Association of Museums, the title "Pride of Taiwan" from Taiwan's Office of the President, Best VR Experience at the Venice Film Festival, the Masque d'Or (Golden Mask) Award at NewImages Festival, Honorary Mention in the Ars Electronica Festival, Best Virtual Reality at the Los Angeles Film Awards, Best VR Story at Cannes XR, and the Jury Award in the SXSW Virtual Cinema Competition.

In 2016, Huang co-founded Taiwan's Virtual and Physical Media Integration Association. He has partnered with the Ars Electronica Festival since 2020 and serves as the Lead Curator of Garden Taipei/Formosa, promoting new media artworks from Taiwan globally.

Tony Huang

University of Technology Sydney

Sharing Augmented Reality-Based Visual Communication Cues for Remote Guidance Collaboration

Bio sketch.

Dr. Huang is an Associate Professor at UTS TD School and a key figure in UTS Visualisation Institute and UTS Connected Intelligence Centre. He previously led the Human-Data Interaction program at Swinburne Data Science Research Institute, was a deputy director at Swinburne, a senior lecturer at UTAS, and a senior research scientist at CSIRO ICT Centre (now Data61). At CSIRO, he managed several high-value projects focusing on areas like virtual/augmented reality, ubiquitous computing, and multimedia. His work included designing system interfaces and visualizations, conducting usability evaluations, and applying data analytics in sectors such as mining and healthcare.

He earned his PhD in computer science from the University of Sydney, with additional training in experimental psychology and psychometrics. His research spans human-computer interaction, visualization, and data science, with over 150 publications, including five books. His book on augmented reality systems was among Springer’s top 25% most downloaded eBooks.

Dr. Huang frequently serves as a chair or committee member at international conferences and is a reviewer and editor for several prestigious journals. He has overseen projects worth over $3 million, funded by both government and industry, and consults on topics like user interface design and human factors. His industry partners have included major companies like Boeing and Oracle. He is actively involved in professional societies such as IEEE and has held visiting positions at universities globally.

Günter Wallner

Johannes Kepler University Linz

Games x Visualization

Bio sketch.

Günter is Professor for Game Computing at the Johannes Kepler University Linz and holds positions at the Eindhoven University of Technology and Ontario Tech University. His research interests lie at the intersection of games user research, data analytics, and information visualization. His work particularly centers on understanding player behavior in games and on researching methods to explore and communicate the collected data to derive actionable insights for game design and development. As part of this, he is working on data visualizations to support the analysis of increasingly large-scale player behavioral datasets used in game analytics. His work has been published in international journals and conference proceedings, such as CHI, CHI PLAY, FDG, Computers & Graphics, and Entertainment Computing. He is editor of the 'Data Analytics Applications in Gaming and Entertainment' book.
